Man confesses to have poisoned the chocolate milk consumed by children

On the afternoon of September 1, Adonis Joseph Negri, 61, confessed to having poisoned the chocolate milk that caused the death of a two year old boy in Cuiaba, Mato Grosso. The officer responsible for the case, Darimar Carneiro Aguiar said in an interview that Deuel de Rezende Soares, 27, stole the drink of his house and sold the product to the child's father, who ended up giving to the child unknowingly about the poisoning.

According with the expertise reports, the death of the boy was caused by ingestion of rat poison and all other drives found in the family home were also contaminated.

After thorough research, the experts ruled out a biological contamination by bacteria or fungus, due to the manufacturing process and identified external contamination through a hole compatible syringe needle on the upper side of each container.

The expert examination detected the presence of carbofuran substance in the five chocolate boxes of two brands. The substance is the active ingredient found in pesticides used to control pests in farms, and commonly used as rat poison.

In his statement to the police, Adonis said to have poisoned the products with rat poison to kill the animals. However, Deuel said he found the chocolate milk in the refrigerator, fact which dismantles the Adonis version.

Understand the case

Deuel, who was a thief known in town for robbery and theft, frequently invaded the residence of Adonis to steal food products. According to police, tired of these thefts, Adonis tried to take revenge on the thief. However, instead of consuming chocolate milk, Deuel, who is a drug user, sold it to the child's parents for BRL 10.00 . Unaware that the product was contaminated, Lazarus took the products home, put them in the fridge and told the mother of the boy who the chocolate was suitable for consumption.


The next morning, Daniela, the child's mother, proved a bit of chocolate milk before giving it to his son two years. As the taste looked good and the product was in validity, she gave the child to take. "It could have been much worse, because Daniela has another daughter, who was pass the day with her grandmother. But if she were at home, we could have two child deaths", said Aguiar.

Adonis was arrested for aggravated murder with the use of poison, as well as attempted murder because there's a child - a friend of the boy deceased - who is still admitted to hospital after drinking the beverage. Deuel and Adonis will account for robbery, and the investigative procedure will be conducted by the Specialized Police of Robbery (Derf), of Cuiabá.
