Governor and mayor of Rio de Janeiro diverted money of the public health to finish the Olympic Games works

The financial crisis of the State of Rio de Janeiro, paralyzed hospitals and reaches different sectors of the administration of governor Luiz Fernando Pezão. "The Rio de Janeiro is broken, bankrupt," said the doctor Jorge Darze, president of Sinmed/RJ (Syndicate of Doctors of Rio de Janeiro).

The syndicate of doctors and other government agencies that are responsible for oversee the actions of the governor and the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, formed a crisis cabinet to monitor the situation. The group wants an audit of accounts to find out, after all, why the state coffers are empty.

In practice, they should be experiencing other reasons to justify what is happening today. At the same time, the subway extension works continue, new parks were built  and overpriced works of the Olympics are far from being finalized. The conclusion is that the money which should be allocated to health, was used in infrastructure works for the Olympics. In Brazil, when politicians get sick, they don't use the public health. They take the airplane and go to the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in Sao Paulo: one of the most expensive and luxurious hospitals of the Latin America.

The State Prosecutor proposed as a first action, the state government give back to the coffers of the Department of Health, the value which is established by the Constitution: 12% of the budget. The state was not spending the 12% that the constitution commands. Then, there is a BRL 660 million hole that should be filled with state resources for the Constitution to be respected.

Then, the Justice granted an injunction so that in 48 hours the governor to deposit the money in the health account. But he did not deposit.

The other lawsuit in the Labor Court, the governor should pay back wages of doctors who provide service to social organizations, as well as the 13th salary, and the replacement of the loss by salary payment delay. It turns out that this second decision was not met.
