At Children's Hospital Darcy Vargas, a high-tech X-ray equipment is stored in the hospital for almost two years, without even having been withdrawn of the box. The machine valued at BRL 1 million is exposed to temperature changes and technological depreciation.
Without the possibility to realize an examination at her daughter, who had just operate the column, the unemployed press operator Cassiano Jose Pantaleon had to spend out of pocket to realize the examination in private hospitals. "If I hadn't the $75, my daughter couldn't to do the X-ray?" He says.
In the Southern Regional Hospital, in São Paulo (SP), one scanner valued at BRL 1.5 million is boxed for three months. The tomography device is used in the diagnosis of neurological, cardiac disease and some cancers.
The nursing assistant Francisco Assis de Oliveira is one of those who cannot take the exam due to the lack of the device. He lives with severe pain in the body, which prevents you from doing everyday tasks. "I've passed out in several places because I have severe pain," he says.
The clinical engineer Lucio Flávio de Magalhães, responsible for deploying equipment in hospitals, says situations like these happen due to lack of planning.
