Brazil starts testing its own 'Uber' for public servants

The Brazilian government launched a new app only for some of its public employees in Brasilia on the 23rd, still in the testing phase. This is TaxiGov, a transport app similar to Uber and Cabify that ministers and other servers can use to get around the Federal District.

For now, only servers of the Secretariat of Management (Seges) of the Ministry of Planning can use the TaxiGov, which was developed for Android, iOS and Windows Phone. With it, employees can request taxis that will be paid by the government on business trips.

According to the Brazilian Govern, paying taxis to the servers will represent a saving of 60% in the transportation expenses of public employees. This transportation today is made with a fleet of private drivers hired, which has an annual expense of BRL 32 million.

The app has many features from other apps like Uber and 99, including race scheduling and driver evaluation. After the trip, the server will receive the e-mail receipt, which can be used to request reimbursement from the federal government.

The government expects all Federal Public Administration bodies located in the Federal District to start using the new service by the end of 2018. The change is expected to save BRL 20 million a year from the public coffers.
